We don’t believe in an off-the-shelf approach to designing strategy for China, and in order to ensure we assist you in designing the most effective strategy for your business, we like to follow the below process:

Let’s chat

Before undertaking any deep dive into strategy, we would like to have a quick no-obligation chat to explore what your business does, and discuss what you may or may not be able to achieve in your business’ China vision. After this 2-hr ‘brainstorming’ session, we would have identified some initial starting points for your journey to developing your strategy to achieve your China vision. But be warned: there is also the possibility that we may honestly tell you that you are not ready for China, and need to take further steps to get your business prepared to take on the world’s largest market.

Confirm scope

Following our initial engagement with you, we will provide you with feedback on what we believe is (and possibly, what is not) realistic strategic scope for your engagement with China. You may decide to take the information from the session and continue the journey on your own; or you may wish to engage us to run the process for you in which case we will provide you with next steps and costs to develop your strategy.

Research & Strategise

Having received confirmation to develop your strategy, we will engage on a research and refining process which ensure the final strategy document is informed, practical and unique to your business circumstances. There will be numerous check-ins with you throughout this process to make sure we are on-track with your expectations, followed by a final ‘strategy reveal’ presentation to your business’ decision makers for sign-off and execution.

Execution consulting & relationships

One of the key aspects of doing business with or in China, is the concept of ‘关系’, or ’Guanxi’ (literally translated as ‘relationships’). Where possible, JC&A will try to assist you in providing introductions to reliable partners or reliable pathways to find partners required to execute your China strategy. Where we cannot assist with such introductions, JC&A can provide solutions for due diligence, where required, in China.

Measuring effectiveness

It has long been argued that a business strategy can never be proven a success (or otherwise) unless it has been measured. It is not possible to measure a strategy’s effectiveness unless performance measures, indicators and / or metrics have been considered and monitored throughout execution. Evaluating how the strategy’s execution is performing provides decision makers with the opportunity to make necessary course corrections.
