A bilingual English – Mandarin speaker with in-depth China knowledge and experience, James’ experience is heavily weighted towards promoting business, trade and cultural exchange between the West and China. James is the President of the Australia China Business Council (WA), a national director and chair of the national Thought Leadership Committee. James has run award-winning inbound tour operator businesses focussed on the China outbound tourism market (COTM), and has run research projects on the role and potential of the COTM for development of the tourism economy in Australian regional areas. He also holds numerous other board positions.

James is a sought-after bilingual actor, and was voted Australia’s #1 influencer in the Chinese market by the People’s Daily Online and is also a recipient of the eminent Business News 40under40 Awards.

 

James has been conducting business with China since 2009, and brings a range of cultural, professional and governance experiences that would be of value to any board dealing between China and the West. His experience as a Director includes but is not limited to Import & Export, Investment, M&A, Divestments, Not for Profit, Mining & Resources, Tourism, Energy, Professional Services and more.

Throughout COVID and challenges in the bilateral Australia – China relationship, James and his team worked extensively to bring the ‘best of Australia’ to a Chinese audience, including through Tourism WA’s campaign ‘Next Stop WA’ – a cultural contextualisation of TWA’s ‘Adventure Awaits’ campaign. Our team has developed over 300 short videos and delivered over 20 live-streaming sessions for our customers. Due to his business background, linguistic talent and performance experience, James has become a sought-after media personality and commentator. James’ engagement in Chinese social media live-streaming and short video marketing has broken records in China and won marketing awards in China including the ‘Best innovative campaign’ award from Mafengwo and ‘Best destination marketing’ award from Pinchain. James is active on a range of Chinese social media platforms, and is most prominent on Douyin 抖音 (Chinese TikTok), Red Note and WeChat Channels.
